Art Works on Commission, Free

As part of the exhibition To Seminar, BAK organizes a series of performances, talks, and public meetings inquiring how learning about, with, and through art can become a collective practice of thinking and acting out imaginaries alternative to those of the crises-ridden contemporary.

For more than a week leading up to this “one-day exhibition,” eighteen young artists labored under the slogan “Obras de arte por encargo, gratis” on the streets and in the public spaces of Utrecht, developing artistic projects that respond to the wishes and aspirations of the city’s inhabitants. Led by Cuban artist René Francisco, the collective presents the commissioned works in the installation in the context of the exhibition To Seminar.

Course: Art as Politics [Rerun on Request]

Due to popular demand, BAK Public Studies offers yet another rerun of the online course Art as Politics, taking place on the following dates: 26 October & 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 November 2020. This digital extension of BAK Public Studies, taught by Maria Hlavajova, is prompted by the urgency to continue collective thinking through, learning about, and imagining critical, politically-informed artistic practices that grasp—and intervene into—the present.
