New World Summit #4, Stateless State

On 19–21 September 2014, the fourth New World Summit, titled Stateless State, takes place at the Royal Flemish Theatre (KVS) in Brussels. This year, BAK is a partner of the New World Summit, together with the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO), based in The Hague. The partnership comes after numerous collaborations, including New World Embassy: Azawad, a project by Moussa Ag Assarid and Jonas Staal (operational at BAK from 6 September till 9 October 2014) and New World Academy #4: The Art of Creating a State (taking place at BAK from 17 till 19 October 2014). The concluding session of the fourth New World Summit is chaired by BAK’s artistic director Maria Hlavajova on 21 September 2014.

The New World Summit is an artistic and political organization founded by visual artist Jonas Staal, and explores the potential of art to develop alternative parliaments for stateless politics. The fourth Summit follows its editions in Berlin (2012), Leiden (2012), and Kochi (2012–2013), and takes place in a parliament built inside of the Royal Flemish Theatre. It hosts twenty representatives of “stateless states” worldwide.
