Unjumbling Our Histories

b.ASIC a.CTIVIST k.ITCHEN presents...

Design: Image by Maja Irene Bolier, framed by Jeanine van Berkel.

An activity by artist and write Maja Irene Bolier.
A one-day workshop on storytelling, collage, and bookmaking.
A space for empathy, learning, and understanding.

WHEN: 14.30–20.00 hrs
WHERE:
BAK, basis voor actuele kunst, Utrecht
HOW:
Free entrance. Dinner served. Register by clicking the link above.

The workshop starts with a memory: a smell or taste, a childhood toy, something that is important to you, and really makes you… you. Participants may bring an object that represents this idea, if they have one. With this memory or object in mind, they are asked to collect or bring along materials to work with, such as images and art supplies.

The first part of the workshop focuses on storytelling and writing. Introductions to all members of the group and their memories and objects are followed by a number of writing exercises.

In the second part is dedicated to illustrating to the story. We play with the images that have been brought in or collected, as well as books and materials present in the space. We use methods like cutting, pasting, drawing, painting, collaging, and writing to create a book, a small slice of memory put down on paper.

The workshop ends with a book presentation and discussion.

Dinner is served by members of the b.ASIC a.CTIVIST k.ITCHEN.
