Manufacturing Mischief is een scriptlezing uit een reeks van sketches met poppen door kunstenaar Pedro Reyes. Reyes gelooft dat “grappen een soort airbag zijn die de klap tussen de werkelijkheid en je verwachting van de werkelijkheid verzacht, dat gelach losbarst op hetzelfde moment dat ideologie en realpolitik op elkaar klappen.”

De hoofdpersonen in deze aflevering zijn Noam Chomsky, Karl Marx, Ayn Rand, Donald Trump en Elon Musk. Het gaat over het verband tussen techno-optimisme en rechtse ideologieën die wijdverbreid zijn in de Verenigde Staten en een belangrijke bron vormen voor Trumpisme. In deze ideologische, dwaze komedie worden kwesties omtrent de afbraak van werk door automatiseringsprocessen, kunstmatige ‘intelligentie’ en het gevaar van een nucleaire apocalyps met elkaar verweven.
