Yallah Sabaya (“Kom dames, maak samen plezier” in het Arabisch) is een speciale avond enkel voor vrouwen waar dans en muziek vrouwen uit de hele wereld met elkaar verbindt. 

Iedere vrouw, waar je ook vandaan komt, is op deze avond welkom om te kletsen en te dansen.

Yallah Sabaya wordt georganiseerd door BAK, basis voor actuele kunst, Utrecht, Welkom in Utrecht, De Voorkamer, Utrecht en Yallah Yallah.

BAK, basis voor Yallah Sabaya

Yallah Sabaya is het startsignaal voor een speciaal weekend bij BAK. Op vrijdag 21 juni warmen we de ruimte op met Yallah Sabaya, waarna de BAK Fellows het overnemen op zaterdag 22 juni tijdens de afsluiting van het postacademische Fellowship-programma van dit jaar. Dit avondprogramma bestaat uit performances, muziek, installaties, gastvrijheid, dansen, hapjes en feestvieren, en is in samenwerking met de BAK 2018/2019 Fellows ontwikkeld.

Yallah Sabaya is onderdeel van de serie BAK, basis voor…, waarin BAK de samenwerking aangaat met andere initiatieven en organisaties om in het licht van gedeelde maatschappelijke urgenties voorstellen voor andere vormen van samenzijn te ontwikkelen: “being together otherwise”. De serie vindt plaats in de context van BAK’s project Trainings for the Not-Yet, georganiseerd door kunstenaar Jeanne van Heeswijk en BAK in samenwerking met vele anderen, van 14 september 2019–12 januari 2020.

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.

Different strategies, tools, methodologies, and contexts are explored to learn more about the challenges and opportunities in the practices and theories of community kitchens.
