Fellow 2018/2019

Mick Wilson

Professor Mick Wilson is een kunstenaar, docent en onderzoeker. Hij was hoofd van de Valand Academy, Universiteit van Göteborg, Göteborg (2012-2018); co-hoofdredacteur van PARSE Journal (2015-2017); en decaan aan de Graduate School of Creative Arts & Media, Dublin (2008-2012). Hij is bezoekend faculteitslid bij Bard CCS, Annandale-on-Hudson, NY (2013-heden) en in Curatorial Practice aan de School of Visual Arts, New York (2014-heden). Publicaties waar hij aan meewerkte omvatten: How Institutions Think (2017) en The Curatorial Conundrum (2016) beide MIT en met Paul O’Neill en Lucy Steeds; Curating Research (2014) and Curating and the Educational Turn (2010) beide Open Editions met Paul O’Neill; en SHARE Handbook for Artistic Research Education (2013), ELIA met Schelte van Ruiten. Nog te verschijnen publicaties omvatten onder andere: Public Enquiries: PARK LEK and the Scandinavian Social Turn, Black Dog Press; en Curating After the Global, MIT.

Fellowship onderzoekstraject

Een van de basale tirannieën van koloniale moderniteit is de oplegging van een model van zelf-bezit of zelf-eigenaarschap als de fundamentele voorwaarde voor politieke persoonlijkheid. En daarmee het hele ontvouwende drama van privébezit als een paradigma van sociaal zijn en sociale relaties. Deze oplegging van regimes van geprivatiseerd sociaal zijn is een koloniale veroveringsstrategie en -techniek die de onteigening van traditioneel gemeenschappelijke gronden mogelijk maakt, zowel in de Europese thuislanden van de kolonisator als in de moordgebieden van de koloniën. Binnen het regime van privébezit worden de doden radicaal uitgesloten, in de zin dat zij geen aandeel of aanspraak op de aarde hebben; ze hebben niet langer de capaciteit om zichzelf te bezitten, zijn verstoten uit de betoverde cirkel van persoonlijkheid en verworden tot louter lichamen zonder zelfbezit. Kunstenaar, docent en onderzoeker Mick Wilson stelt in zijn onderzoek voor dat het rechthebbende, bezitterige individu geen bruikbare structuur van verzet is, en dat het onderzoeken van de dodenkwestie een andere manier van denken en leven dan fascisme mogelijk kan maken (zonder terug te trekken naar liberalisme).
