Een symposium, When is Feminism in Art? The Case of Sanja Iveković, ter gelegenheid van de solotentoonstelling van Sanja Ivekovic, georganiseerd door BAK, basis voor actuele kunst, Utrecht en het Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven.
In het kader van de tweedelige tentoonstelling Urgent Matters van Sanja Iveković organiseren BAK, basis voor actuele kunst en het Van Abbemuseum een symposium van een dag waarin de ontwikkeling van feministische en kritische kunstpraktijken in het ‘former East’ worden onderzocht door de bespreking van het opmerkelijk veelzijdige werk van Sanja Iveković. Het doel van het symposium is om een context te bieden waarin het werk van Iveković de dialoog aangaat met, en geanalyseerd wordt in het kader van de wereldwijde ontwikkelingen in de kunst. Hiermee wordt een bijdrage geleverd aan de kennis en het begrip van de geschiedenis van kunst in Centraal- en Oost-Europa door het concrete voorbeeld van de geleidelijke ontwikkeling van een feministische positie binnen een specifieke culturele en politieke topografie. Genodigde sprekers onderzoeken deze onderwerpen door een bespreking van sleutelwerken in Ivekovic’s oeuvre en de sociale, culturele en politieke context waarin zij staan. Iveković neemt deel aan de paneldiscussie aan het einde van het symposium.

These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
