Olga Chernysheva, Cosmin Costinas
Op 17 februari 2011 om 20.00 uur spreekt Olga Chernysheva, wiens werk op dit moment te zien is in de solotentoonstelling In the Middle of Things in BAK, basis voor actuele kunst in Utrecht, over haar werk met de curator van de tentoonstelling, Cosmin Costinas. Tijdens de conversatie vormen verschillende videowerken van Chernysheva de basis voor een discussie over haar persoonlijke verkenningen van het alledaagse leven in het Rusland van nu, dat wordt gekenmerkt door een wreed neoliberalisme en slepende trauma’s van het Sovjet verleden.
Costinas en Chernysheva bespreken strategieën voor de beeldende kunst in deze complexe sociaal-culturele context. Chernysheva’s benadering van haar nabije werkelijkheid werpt verschillende vragen op: Wat betekent het om vandaag de dag een bepaalde traditie van realisme opnieuw te gebruiken?; Hoe kan realisme dienen als een kritisch instrument? Terwijl Chernysheva en Costinaş reflecteren op de status van hedendaagse kunst in Rusland, praten ze ook over de rol van de kunstenaar, gevangen als die is door de heersende vraag van de markt naar spektakel en de productie van koopwaar. Hoe kunnen kunstenaars deze trend weerstaan en tegelijkertijd een kritische blik werpen op de sociale ontwikkelingen om hen heen?
Tijdens deze gelegenheid presenteert BAK de kunstenaarseditie Clippings van Olga Chernysheva. De editie is gebaseerd op de installatie Clippings (2010) en combineert foto’s en video stills met reflectieve fragmenten geschreven door de kunstenaar.

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
