New World Embassy: Azawad is een voorstel voor een tijdelijke werkzame ambassade: een extraterritoriale ruimte voor representatie, onderhandeling en internationale uitwisseling, en speelt zich zo af op het grensvlak van kunst, theorie en activisme. Het project omvat een artistieke interventie op de voorgevel van het gebouw van BAK en een installatie in het pand, vergezeld van bijdragen door documentairemakers Rob Schröder en Gabriëlle Provaas.
Volgend op een preview op 6 en 7 september, vindt op 9 september 2014 om 19.00 uur de officiële opening plaats van New World Embassy: Azawad, een project van Moussa Ag Assarid en Jonas Staal. Deze ambassade wordt ingewijd met een paneldiscussie, met bijdragen van onder meer politiek wetenschapper Jolle Demmers (Centrum voor Conflictstudies (CSS) van de Universiteit Utrecht), politicus Jasper van Dijk (Socialistische Partij), onafhankelijk oorlogsjournalist Arnold Karskens, kunstenaar Mazou Ibrahim Touré en diplomaat Jeroen Zandberg (UNPO [Organisatie van Niet-Vertegenwoordigde Naties en Volkeren]). Het debat wordt geleid door voormalig oorlogsverslaggever en cultuurjournalist Raymond van den Boogaard (NRC Handelsblad).

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
