Younes Bouadi, Gabriëlle Provaas, Rob Schröder, Jonas Staal, Nationale Bevrijdingsbeweging van Azawad
In de zomer van 2014 reisden documentairemakers Gabriëlle Provaas en Rob Schröder met een delegatie van de New World Academy mee met de Nationale Bevrijdingsbeweging van Azawad (MNLA), die sinds 2012 strijdt voor de onafhankelijke staat Azawad in het noordelijke, in de Sahara gelegen deel van Mali. De documentaire die hier het resultaat van is, Azawad: The Art of Creating a State, biedt een indruk van de dagelijkse beslommeringen van de volkeren die zich bij de beweging hebben aangesloten. De filmmakers voerden samen met kunstenaar Jonas Staal en producent Younes Bouadi gesprekken met een aantal mensen die zich hebben toegelegd op “de kunst van het creëren van een staat.”
De documentaire Azawad: The Art of Creating a State is een op zichzelf staand project door filmmakers Gabriëlle Provaas en Rob Schröder dat voortkomt uit de vierde sessie van New World Academy, die in 2014 plaatsvond onder de noemer The Art of Creating a State. New World Academy is een educatieplatform dat vertegenwoordigers van stateloze politieke organisaties uitnodigt om hun visie op de rol van kunst in politieke strijd te delen met kunstenaars en studenten. New World Academy is in 2013 opgericht door kunstenaar Jonas Staal in samenwerking met BAK, basis voor actuele kunst.

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.
