Sunday 8 December, 14-18 hrs
Let’s DIY: (online) radio culture, independent labels and their community function

This threefold afternoon starts with a conversation about the catalysing effects of radio and motivations of the trainers to dive into this realm. This introduction is followed by a live electronic soundscape in which training participants add improvised instrumentation, spoken word or other sonics*. Ultimately, this group-convened recording is presented as a cassette tape, which will be broadcasted through DIY (ether) methods and reproduced for the training participants.

With Femke Dekker (Ja Ja Ja Nee Nee Nee / Sandberg Instituut), Môgô (Ducktape Records), Noortje Sanders (The Lonely Radioshow / EMP.FM) and Stefan Starke (Stranded FM).

* Participants are encouraged to think of ways of expressing their voice during the soundscape. It is allowed to bring an item, be it a book or instrument, that you wish to utilise. Not obligatory.

Wednesday 18 December, 19-21 hrs
A training in (deep) listening with Katherine MacBride, an artist who focuses on researching feminist and decolonial listening practices.

This practical workshop will involve doing and reflecting on a range of listening exercises drawn from musical, activist, and caring practices. The starting point will be Pauline Oliveros’s work on deep listening. The workshop will involve some gentle and infinitely adaptable body-based relaxation exercises; improvisation using clapping, walking, and breathing rhythms; exploring deep listening; discussion and reflection. It is intended that this be an exploratory and inclusive collaborative group process. Listening will be approached in an expansive way which will not presume a specific range of bodily capacities or experiences. No pre-knowledge required.

For (guaranteed) participation you can mail to luke@stranded.fm
Please note: This training doesn’t include a meal.
