Dr. Marquard Smith is academicus, curator, programmamaker, oprichter en hoofdredacteur van Journal of Visual Culture en programmaleider van de master Museums & Galleries in Education aan UCL Institute of Education, Londen. Als curator ontwikkelde hij onder meer How to Construct a Time Machine, MK Gallery, Milton Keynes, 2015; Jordan McKenzie: An Englishman Abroad, Sabanci University Kasa Gallery, Istanbul, 2014 en The Global Archive, Hanmi Gallery, London, 2012. Smith schrijft over artistiek onderzoek, praktijkgericht onderzoek, archieven, kunstonderwijs en recentelijk ook over experimentalisme in MaHKUscript: Journal of Fine Art Research. Hij is auteur, redacteur en co-redacteur van meer dan twintig boeken en thema-uitgaven van tijdschriften, waaronder: What is Research in the Visual Arts? Obsession, Archive, Encounter (met Michael Ann Holly, 2009); Visual Culture Studies: Interviews with Key Thinkers (2008); The Erotic Doll: A Modern Fetish (2014); The Prosthetic Impulse: From a Posthuman Present to a Biocultural Future (met Joanne Morra, 2007) en Stelarc: The Monograph (2005). Smith woont en werkt in Londen.
