Courtesy Le Guess Who?

Kom op zondag 11 november 2018 naar BAK voor een interessante introductie op BAK’s huidige tentoonstelling Forensic Justice door BAK-directeur Maria Hlavajova! Hoe verandert kunst vandaag de dag en hoe verandert kunst de wereld? In de introductie bespreekt Hlavajova hoe kunst buiten haar grenzen treedt en zich verbindt met wetenschap, politiek en meer, om te verkennen, experimenteren, samenwerken en het vieren van de mogelijkheden van een andere vorm van samenzijn.

Deze introductie vindt plaats in het kader van het ‘Untitled’-programma van Le Guess Who? 2018. Festivalbezoekers kunnen op vertoon van een entreebewijs gratis de introductie bijwonen en aansluitend de tentoonstelling bezoeken.

De introductie is ook toegankelijk voor bezoekers die een entreebewijs voor de tentoonstelling Forensic Justice hebben gekocht.

Over Le Guess Who?

Le Guess Who? is een viering van avontuurlijke muziek in Utrecht. Gericht op genre-doorbrekende muziek uit de hele wereld, vindt de twaalfde editie van het festival plaats van 8 t/m 11 november 2018.

Gedurende vier dagen neemt Le Guess Who? de stad Utrecht over. Meer dan 150 artiesten treden op in popzalen, theaters, kerken, oude fabriekspanden en werfkelders. Aanvullende activiteiten zoals exposities, installaties, filmvertoningen, sessies, markten en gratis muziekprogrammering (zoals Le Mini Who? en Lombok Festival) nemen bezit van Utrechtse horeca, pleinen, filmhuizen, galeries en de verborgen hoeken van de stad.

Le Guess Who? focust op artiesten die de grenzen van genres opzoeken én verleggen. Naast eigenwijze popmuziek wordt onder meer niet-westerse muziek, (free)jazz, avant-garde, folk, krautrock, psychedelica, drone, ambient en modern gecomponeerd gepresenteerd, met vooral veel mengvormen en kruisbestuivingen van deze genres.

Door de jaren heen is Le Guess Who? uitgegroeid tot internationaal toonaangevend festival. Inmiddels staat het bekend om de laagdrempelige en inspirerende manier waarop grensverleggende muziek uit de hele wereld wordt gepresenteerd. In 2017 kwamen bezoekers uit maar liefst 58 verschillende landen, waaronder bijna heel Europa, maar bijvoorbeeld ook Mexico, Australië, Libanon, Japan, Egypte, India en Zuid-Korea.

Using the sancocho (a pan-Latin American soup with no fixed recipe) as a tool for research and encounter, Mercado Lourdes (Bogotá, Colombia) will host and organize a series of field meals. These events activate and connect the multiple affects that have resulted from ongoing research with local producers into the biodiversity of the territory.

In all continents, people have built matriarchal cosmologies sustained by complex rituals. In the advent of main modern religions and after centuries of colonizing invasions, the goddesses of antiquity were suppressed by the patriarchal structures that consolidated our era. However, they found ways to speak to us in the language of patterns, melodies, and poems. This workshop uses the voice as a method to reveal the presence of goddesses.

During these sessions—part of the bASIC aCTIVIST kITCHEN (b.a.k.) program in collaboration with Berend Bombarius, De Voorkamer and BAK, basis voor actuele kunst—we want to collectively explore the topic of setting up community kitchens. Different strategies, tools, methodologies, and contexts are explored to learn more about the challenges and opportunities in the practices and theories of community kitchens.
