Techno-Ancestrality

IMPAKT festival 2026 | 8-11 April
performances, exhibitions, films and conversations

organized by IMPAKT
hosted by BAK Basecamp, Theater Utrecht & IMPAKT centre

With Techno-Ancestrality, the IMPAKT Festival 2026 turns to ancestral knowledge as a living source for rethinking technology. Rather than treating technology as a seamless story of progress, the festival approaches it as a field of practices, relationships and responsibilities that are continuously shaped and maintained.

We bring together artists, filmmakers and researchers who draw on
cosmology, craft, oral traditions and ecological knowledge to challenge
dominant technological imaginaries. Across different contexts, from
Indigenous cosmologies to diasporic histories, these practices offer ways of understanding technology beyond extraction, efficiency and innovation.
Techno-Ancestrality presents art that foregrounds connection, continuity and care. It invites us to reconsider how we design, build and imagine—placing relationships between people, technologies, histories and ecologies at the centre.

CURATORS: Edward Akintola Hubbard (DARKMATTER)
& Arjon Dunnewind (IMPAKT)
