Somatic Laboratory – Latinx Memories
design by Catalina Reyes Navarro
Embodied Inquiry in Crisis, Care, and Imagination
workshop series on practices of slowing, sensing, resistance, and repair
organized by Paula Montecinos, Flavia Pinheiro and Alejandra Ortiz with support of Papaya Kuir
Our work aligns with Basecamp’s mission to rethink cultural infrastructures and solidarities, through embodied, anti-discriminatory, and decolonial practices, focusing on somatics as lived, relational, and political: how movement, breath, sensation, and relational awareness can restore vital connections—to self, to others—and open spaces for alternative futures. Memory, affect, and resurgent care remain central to collective transformation.
This fall, five workshops will be offered, open to latinamerican migrants and refugees, global majority migrants, and allies. Sessions will be bilingual (Spanish/English) and include:
Somatic workshops & sessions: Movement, breathwork, touch-based practices, sound and listening exercises, relational experiments of repair, fostering community engagement.
Invitation zine-making: A collective reflection and creative response to the season’s practices.
These workshops are open to all and free of charge, but centering Latinx queer and migrant/asylum-seeking communities. There are limited spots, reserve your place if you want to be sure by sending an email to somaticlaboratory@gmail.com
For these upcoming sessions, we are kindly asking for donations from participants to help cover travel costs for asylum seeker participants.
For the first time, Latinx Memories are unable to fully cover the train tickets themselves. This small contribution can make a big difference in ensuring that everyone has equal access to participate. Building a practice rooted in solidarity and care means showing up for each other in these practical ways too.
If you are able and willing to support, please make a donation to help fund the tickets.
