Zine Making as Collective Methodology

for the b.ASIC a.CTIVIST k.ITCHEN
Following the learning process of While Kitchen-ing at Basecamp, where hierarchical structures are constantly being reshaped through everyday practices, we aim for these open zine sessions to collectivise methodologies. We welcome the unknown, different experiences, and diverse ways of knowing, using the sessions as a space to exchange, reflect, and experiment together. At the same time, we want to explore how everyday kitchen work can become a site for artistic research, and how artistic research can in turn open up new ways of looking at and working with the kitchen.
The three sessions will be driven by the experiences of self-publisher members of the collective, together with participants keen to enrich this process and co-publish the first While-Kitchening publication. Each session will last two hours, from 7 pm to 9 pm.
Together, we hope to turn the kitchen into an open archive.

Zine Making
While Kitchen-ing is a practice-based research collective and multilingual kitchen group originally founded by MAFA alumni, working across English, Chinese, Spanish, Farsi, Arabic, Greek, and more.
Treating cooking as a form of collective learning and political action, the collective engages the kitchen as a space for sharing knowledge, practising care, reconnecting with "nearby" and experimenting with non-hierarchical ways of working together. Through cooking, catering, gathering and hosting public events and ect, While Kitchen-ing explores connections between food, culture, and social systems.
