Binnen de wanden van een enorme LED-kubus stap je zestig minuten lang in de wereld van Lilith. Zij is een virtueel wezen, een digitale reïncarnatie die ergens zweeft in het schemergebied tussen de dood en een nieuw begin.
Je kijkt niet alleen naar het werk; je maakt er deel van uit. Terwijl je door de ruimte beweegt, reageert de AI met choreografieën op jouw aanwezigheid. Door de inzet van de Unreal Engine en LED-technologie ontstaat er een voortdurende interactie tussen mens en machine — een technisch ballet dat elke seconde anders is.
LILITH.AEON confronteert ons met de vraag wat het nog betekent om mens te zijn, nu de grens tussen ons lichaam en technologie steeds verder vervaagt.

AΦE (AE) is een dansgezelschap dat werd opgericht door Aoi Nakamura en Esteban Lecoq. Hun unieke kracht ligt in het gebruik van technologie om publiekparticipatie volledig opnieuw uit te vinden. AΦE is een associate artist bij het Institute of Cultural and Creative Industries aan de Univeristeit van kent (iCCi). In 2022 lanceerden zij het A+E Lab, een culurele en technologische hub, gehuisvest in de Historic Dockyard of Chatham (Verenigd Koninkrijk), waar zij innovatieve werken produceren en verbindende programma's maken voor gemeenschappen en artiesten die zich bezighouden met technologie en cultuur. Hun werk heeft in totaal 101.000 live bezoekers en deelnamers bereikt.
Aoi is een succesvol performer en choreograaf, met een carrière in staatstheaters in Duitsland, de Jasmin Vardimon Company en Punchdruk sinds 2006. Haar bekroonde werk Ototoxic (2008) won de eerste prijs bij de International Choreography Competition in Aarhus en werd opgevoerd in Duitsland en Japan. In 2016 richtte ze AΦE op met Esteban Lecoq, waarmee ze pioneers werden in XR technolgie in de dans. AΦE heeft getourd door 20 landen op 80 locaties. In 2021 werd AΦE associate artist bij het Institute of Cultural and Creative Industries aan de Universiteit van kent en lanceerden zij A+E Lab bij het Historic Dockyard in Chatham. Esteban heeft gewerkt met de Johannes Wieland Dance Company (Kassel, Duitsland), de Jasmin Vardimon Company, Punchdruk en talrijke andere artiesten en choreografen in de dans, film en immersieve producties. Hij begon zijn carrière als choreograaf in 2008, naast zijn werk als performer. In 2016 richtte hij AΦE op met Aoi Nakamura, waarmee ze pioneers werden in XR technolgie in de dans. AΦE heeft getourd door 20 landen op 80 locaties. This 60-minute experience, unfolding on the walls of a monumental LED cube, invites audiences to follow the life cycles of Lilith: a virtual being, a reincarnation both digital and poetic, a soul trapped in limbo, suspended between death and a future awakening.
As the public wanders around the work, it comes to life through the encounter and interaction between spectators’ movements and the AI’s choreographic responses, in a dance where human and machine interact, Unreal Engine and LED technology power a performative ballet that is always unique and everevolving.
Through this visceral experience, LILITH.AEON explores the new relationships we have with technology, particularly in the face of the possibility of transcending biological mortality.
Bios
AΦE (AE) is a dance company founded by Aoi Nakamura and Esteban Lecoq. Their uniqueness lies in using technology to completely reinvent audience participation, touring their productions worldwide. AΦE is an associate artist of the Institute of Cultural and Creative Industries – University of Kent (iCCi), and in 2022 they launched A+E Lab, a cultural and technology hub located at the Historic Dockyard Chatham, UK, producing innovative work and delivering community and artist engagement programmes related to technology and culture. Across all their work, they have engaged over 101,000 live audience members and participants internationally.
Aoi is an accomplished performer and choreographer, with a career dancing in state theatres in Germany, the Jasmin Vardimon Company, and Punchdrunk since 2006.
