1933 revisited
exhibition on the resonances of anti-fascism and anti-colonialism in Utrecht
exhibition opening
co-curated by Sophie Mak-Schram and Ndèye-Anne Pouye for the Anti-Fascist Congress
in close cooperation with Nancy Jouwe and Jeanne van He
Curated to echo the anti-fascist congress that took place in Utrecht in 1933, this exhibition will examine traces of this historical gathering through various archival sources, infused with contemporary elements. It unveils the singularity of this conference, while exploring the entanglements between (anti-)fascism and (anti-)colonialism. In this space where temporalities intertwine, past and future are two joined processes.
The exhibition consists of contributions by the Black Archives, Illiada Charalambous, Colored Qollective, International Institute of Social History, JMS Legacy Foundation and het Nationaal Archief. It was co-curated by Sophie Mak-Schram and Ndèye-Anne Pouye, in close cooperation with Jeanne van Heeswijk and Nancy Jouwe.
