Spacecraft Icarus 13: Narratives of Progress from Elsewhere

tentoonstelling samengesteld door Cosmin Costinas

Opening: 8 October 2011, 20.00

  • Film still from A Kind of Paradise with artist Kiluanji Kia Henda, director: Andreas Johnson, 2011

Curated by Cosmin Costinas, the exhibition Spacecraft Icarus 13: Narratives of Progress from Elsewhere presents a number of artistic positions by international artists from different generations that reflect upon alternative visions for the future and models for political and cultural change that have emerged in response to the new conditions of the post-Cold War era. The artworks speak powerfully about the necessity to think beyond today’s neoliberal brand of progress.

The exhibition is on view at BAK from 9 October till 23 December 2011 and includes works by Neil Beloufa, Patty Chang and David Kelley, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Mikhail Kalatozov, Kiluanji Kia Henda, Federico Herrero, Yasuzo Masumura, Omar Meneses, Cristina Lucas, Mauro Restiffe, Glauber Rocha, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and Lin Yilin. An opening takes place on 8 October at 20.00 hrs.

Spacecraft Icarus 13: Narratives of Progress from Elsewhere is accompanied by a public program titled Cinematic Narratives from Elsewhere, curated by Christina Li.
